Dear all,
please let me submit some questions about Oracle Data Guard.
There are 2 databases "licensed and ready":
- database "alfa", Oracle 10.2 Enterprise Edition, single instance
- database "bravo", Oracle 10.2 Enterprise Edition, Real Application Clusters
I have to "align" bravo to alfa on a daily basis, so that - in case of failure of the main site "alfa" - recovery is possible switching to the site "bravo".
1) Even if we can afford a loss of data corresponding to the few hours passed after the last daily alignment (no need of a "transactional" alignment between the two databases), I suppose that the best approach to fulfil this need in terms of manageability and efficiency consists on including the two databases in a Data Guard configuration.
Am I right?
2) Specifically, the physical standby database implementation should be preferred to the logical one because "simpler and faster" in this case; am I right?
3) Does this Data Guard configuration require
a) additional licenses?
b) additional hardware/software resources for the host machines?
5) Does the release of the two databases have to be equal up to the component-specific release number (10.2.0.1, e.g)? Or, for example, is a 10.2.0.1 db able to work with a 10.2.0.3 db under this Data Guard configuration?
Thanks a lot in advance!
