Cygwin X client on Windows 7 as replacement for buggy Hummingbird Exceed?
Dana NMar 20 2012 — edited Mar 20 2012Hummingbird Exceed (13.0.0.2.2.2) doesn't work well on my Windows 7 PC. When I perform a ./runInstaller on a remote RedHat Linux box, this are ok for a few <OK> <NEXT> screens. And then a child window gets launched that flashes like crazy and is unusable. I checked Oracle Corp's guide to using OPatch and made the suggested Exceed tweak but that didn't fix the problem. We've tried running Exceed in XP Compability mode and that hasn't worked either.
My other colleagues use the same version of Exceed on their native XP laptops and haven't experienced problems. Since there's a push to migrate XP to Windows 7, this is going to be an issue that will bite us all if not resolved.
Has anyone here used Cygwin as a replacement for Exceed? Is it reliable? We're not allowed to run X Windows servers on our PCs. But we should be allowed to run an X client.
Thanks very much.
