Customizing QBE(Query By Example) input value

Hi All,

How can we modify the user input to some custom variable, before it goes into the query, after we search using QBE panel for a column?
For eg* : I have a column which is of type String, and when user searches he/she will enter a string, but I want it to be converted to a Number (say 1 for A, 2 for B) before the query is executed.
