Creating Physical Standby Database

Eduardo Freitas2 days ago

First let me say and I'm not a senior DBA, and that is the reason I'm trying to create a physical standby database using Enterprise Manager.

I create a lab with 2 server, on server 1 I installed the grid (to be similar to the final needs), installed the database and created the database using dbca

Server 2 I installed the grid and the database

Presented both server to the Enterprise Manager and used the Database Option → Add Standby

Round #1 created the standby on server 1, just the simplest way … it worked, then a clean everything (i had a snapshot for the OLVM to revert each time i do a test)

Round #2 … to be similar to what I will need for production, where I will need transfer file from location 1 to location 2 not in real time, I went into the standby → choose add standby → Create a primary backup only → accept the default location

I transferred the files to the server 2.

Run the Add Standby by again → Choose Create physical standby (first option) and on the screen 2 choose using existing backup → backup from previous standby (as I want to use the files already transferred to the server 2) … completed all next screens and it reach the last screen. On the last screen it says “standby will be create using jobxyz” … however when I click finish, the job IS NOT CREATED, and it just return to the screen with an option “add standby” and stay in this loop.
