I'm hoping to roll out an upgrade of my schema which will add 2 new indexes to the schema. The indexes will be created on 2 separate tables, and the index tablespace is the same for all indexes.
The tables that the indexes are being built on are very large with hundreds of millions of records so I was planning to create the indexes at the same time from 2 separate sessions. Is this a good idea considering the tablespace and data file is the same for both indexes or should I run them sequentially?
My concerns are how long the creation will take if running sequentially or at the same time. Will there be too much contention for the creation and population of 2 index segments on the same data file and how will the index segment space be consumed under the covers on the data file during the creation? Is it likely to be split across the data file when creating the indexes at the same time.
I'm running 12.2 Standard Edition
