Creating and starting services for Oracle Database 10g express edition

Hi,
I am trying to reinstall 10g database on my machine but the installation hangs at "Creating and starting services for Oracle Database 10g express edition". I have also checked for registry entries and cleaned them before re installing ,still no progress. Please point out some solutions.
