Creating an Incident Tracking Form
Greetings all,
I am trying to work through an application and I am looking for some expert advice.
I work on a team that manages network incidents as they are happening. I am trying to create an application where multiple people can take notes at the same time about the incident. I was thinking of creating a master detail table but not sure that is the right approach so let me explain the fields I am looking to create and then take advice.
For each incident, I want to track the following:
INCIDENTID NUMBER No - 1 << Auto Generated PK
INCIDENTCREATED DATE No - - <<Populated with SYSDATE as default with format: DD-MON-RRRR HH24:MI
INCIDENT_OWNER VARCHAR2(200) No - - << Populated with :APP_USER as default
DTGSTART DATE Yes - -
DTGEND DATE Yes - -
INCIDENT_SERVICES VARCHAR2(4000) Yes - -
INCIDENT_CUSTOMERS VARCHAR2(4000) Yes - -
INCIDENT_DESCRIPTION VARCHAR2(4000) Yes - -
INCIDENT_TIMELINE VARCHAR2(4000) Yes - -
INCIDENT_TRACKING VARCHAR2(500) Yes - -
INCIDENT_RESTORE VARCHAR2(4000) Yes - -
INCIDENT_FOLLOWUP VARCHAR2(4000) Yes - -
INCIDENT_LEVEL NUMBER(5,0) Yes - -
As the owner of the incident, I would fill in all this information. Then my fellow analysts who may be monitoring the incident with me would be on the call and we may all be adding notes to this incident and I am not sure how to approach this part.
The information we will be collecting in the notes is the following:
NOTEID NUMBER NO - 1 << Auto Generated PK
INCIDENTID NUMBER No - - << FK TO INCIDENTID FROM INCIDENT TABLE
NOTE_DATETIME DATE NO - <<Populated with SYSDATE as default with format: DD-MON-RRRR HH24:MI
NOTE_OWNER VARCHAR2(200) NO - - << Populated with :APP_USER as default
NOTE VARCHAR2(4000) NO - -
So once I open the incident ticket, I was thinking my fellow analysts could log in to the application, see the ticket and click on it to see the specific ticket details. Then have a place where they can add a note and submit and then add another note and submit and so on and so forth so that they are updated an visible by everyone as they themselves are updating or refreshing. And if multiple analysts are adding notes, that is no big deal because in tracking an incident more information is better than less information.
So I am asking for advice on how to accomplish this and if someone already knows of an example I would certainly appreciate the assistance. I am trying to get this implemented as soon as possible to avoid missing information in future incidents.
Thanks in advance for any assistance
