A colleague has created an OL7 VM that he'd like to use as a "golden image". I'd like to use that "golden image" to create a template that can be used to create sensibly named VM's with sensibly named disks.
- Will creating a template allow administrators to exert more control over the naming of VM's that are created with the template?
- When using a template to create a VM:
- Will Oracle VM Manager prompt the administrator for a name for the new VM?
- Will the name that the administrator enters be used for the name of the disk as it is displayed in the Oracle VM Manager?
- What are the steps for using this "golden image" to create a template?
e.g., I used the "golden image" named "OL7-EBS-INT-APP" to create an appliance: "OL7-EBS-INT-APP-test". And then I used the appliance to create a VM. The new VM was automatically named by appending a new, unrelated UUID to the Appliance name (i.e., "OL7-EBS-INT-APP-test_0004fb00-0006-0000-eb85-df53ee2ac309" [id "0004fb0000060000bad0f0ca25e4d4db"]) and the disk that was created for the new VM was named using another new, unrelated UUID (i.e., "ef68ddf2c4824e34b55f13365dfcd0ea" [filename "c17caa98db8a4cc6b42fa2878e7f92db.img"]).
