Creating a calcutor in Java!!

Ok, so I was given an assignment by my college lecturer to create a calculator in Java. I wont be using a GUI so its going to be a simple intercations pane. I know the Java is already a mini calculator with +, -, / and *...But I have to create square roots, squared ect...can anyone puch me in the right direction?
