Could not Shutdown or Startup the DB

Hello Experts,
i stutdown the oracle instace, before complete the process i came out of the command prompt. after that if i try to connect the db, i am getting the following error. Please help me.

SQL> conn sys/oracle as sysdba
Connected to an idle instance.
SQL> startup
ORA-10997: another startup/shutdown operation of this instance inprogress
ORA-09968: unable to lock file
SQL> shutdown immediate
ORA-24324: service handle not initialized
ORA-24323: value not allowed
ORA-01090: shutdown in progress - connection is not permitted
SQL>
