Converting a number to a char

223171Jun 28 2002
I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am trying to create a fixed legnth file to upload to a clients database. and I seem to be having a bit of a problem with my number fields.

My numbers needs to be 6 characters long proceded with zeros. to do this I use to_char(num,'0999999') this would convert 209 to 000209 but when i retrieve this number in a select statement it inserts a charater before the number for a + or - sign making it 7characters long.

does anyone know how to get rid of the space that is used for the + or - sign

Your help would be greatly appreciated
