Convert Varchar2 field to 24 hours date

Hi all,

I want to display a Varchar field e.g. *15-MAR-2012 04:21:05* in a 24 hours date field.

Here is the query i have used.

TO_date(+<String field>+, 'DD-MM-YYYY hh24:mi:ss')

output --> *15-MAR-2012 04:21:05*

But it still displaying as 12 hours value..

How can I do this ??
