Convert Raw socket input stream to SOAPMessage

I have been tasked with writing a lightweight single purpose SOAP processor.

Can anyone explain the steps necessary to convert the raw socket input stream into either a SOAPMessage object (with attachments) or an HTTPServletRequest?

Any help appreciated.
