Convert fmb to XML for Forms 10g application
japherJan 11 2010 — edited Jan 11 2010Hi,
My organisation has a large Oracle Forms 10g application with all source code currently in binary (fmb) format. We're hoping to migrate to Subversion for version control, but obviously we would be able to benefit from many more of Subversion features if our source was in a text-based format.
I've noticed that as of 9i, fmb files can be converted to XML using Forms2XML.
A few questions:
1. Can we simply convert all fmb files to XML and stop using binary files completely?
2. Are there any side-effects of using XML source files? Can Forms Builder still be used?
3. Can XML source files be compiled into fmx files, or do we have to go back to fmb first (using XML2Forms), then compile to fmx?
I'm also aware of the .fmt (text) format. Can this be used as a working format instead of fmb? Would we need to convert back to fmb before using Forms Builder? Would we need to convert back to fmb to create an fmx?
Has anyone in this forum had success in moving completely away from fmb?
