convert 8-bit data to 7-bit packed SMS

Hi,
Using UNFORMATTED_SMS_PP_ENV, the data that I downloaded is displayed using DCS_8_BIT_DATA. How do I extract the data and use them to send a SMS? Will converting to 7-bit do the trick? How do i convert from a 8-bit data to a 7-bit alphanumerical packed SMS?
