connecting to local service name and a network service name

29240Jan 7 2007 — edited Jan 7 2007
Hi,

I run 9i on my laptop and I have no problems connecting to my local database. My listener works fine.

On a network somewhere, I have another Oracle 10g database and I am trying to configure a connection to it while at the same time connected to the local service name for the sake of being able to transfer some objects using SQL Developer.

For my local service names, I turn on and off my services in windows services but the service name for my network service name is not showing up in here.

Initially, I set up two listeners, one for each but when I connect to one, I cannot connect to the other, I believe because they both share the same port 1521 and I need to turn one off one listener for the other to use.

Even after changing the port to the 1524 and using a single listener, it tells me

ERROR:
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist

I believe this is because the service name is not showing up in windows services for me to start.

I don't think I should need the oraclehttp service here as I was able to initially able to connect.

Can anyone help me here please.

This has been a nightmare. This is the problem with running Oracle on windows unlike Unix.

Much appreciation
