Connect to VNC But Only Terminal - No Desktop

orclrunnerNov 24 2014 — edited Nov 25 2014

Oracle Linux 5.10

Installed the Gnome desktop

Configured VNCSERVER:

export DT="`date +%m%d%Y.%H%M%S`"

cp /etc/sysconfig/vncservers  /etc/sysconfig/vncservers.orig.${DT}

cat >>/etc/sysconfig/vncservers <<EOF

## Oracle11gR2

VNCSERVERS="2:oracle"

VNCSERVERARGS[2]="-geometry 1024x768 -nolisten tcp"

## End - Oracle11gR2

EOF

su - oracle

vncpasswd

exit   # back to root

# enable "vncserver" service to autostart on boot

chkconfig vncserver on

service vncserver start

prints out the following:

Starting VNC server: 2:oracle xauth:  creating new authority file /home/oracle/.Xauthority

New 'dub-ImrORA3.xxx.yyy.net:2 (oracle)' desktop is dub-ImrORA3.xxx.yyy.net:2

Creating default startup script /home/oracle/.vnc/xstartup

Starting applications specified in /home/oracle/.vnc/xstartup

Log file is /home/oracle/.vnc/dub-ImrORA3.xxx.yyy.net:2.log

                                                           [  OK  ]

[root@dub-ImrORA3 ~]#

I can connect successfully from a VNC client on my local machine. But all I get is a crude looking terminal window.  How do I get the Gnome Desktop???
