Connect from Java Applet to C++ Server

Hi

I try to connect from my Java Applet (JDK1.3) to my C++ Server (omniORB3.04). Now I heard that it is not possible, becaue JDK1.3 can not communicate with the nameservice of other ORBs. Is this true. I do not want to recode my whole project. Is there an ohter way??????
If there is no other way, what Java ORBs are good?
