CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY

Dan AMay 1 2014 — edited May 1 2014

Hello All

In setting this:

CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO BACKED UP 2 TIMES TO DISK;

I am telling rman to consider archivelogs already backed up two times to be obsolete.

I can then remove them by using:

backup database plus archivelog delete input

or manually as in

crosscheck backup;

delete obsolete;

My doubt is this: why would you want to wait until the logs are backed up twice? Why back them up two times to disk?

In my case, I have them saved outside the FRA and in the FRA. I understand the process to delete them, I am just unsure as to the meaning of the retention policy of "n TIMES".

Thanks.
