Computing Fractions

Hello,
I need to create a function to compute fractions!? In particular, the function has to add fraction1 (let's say 3/4) to fraction2 (1/3 for example) and return the sum (the total)...
What is a formula to compute this addition and how do I declare variables in this case...??
