Computer is extremely slow ...After Installing Oracle 10g db on windows xp

Hi
I have downloaded oracle 10g db (32-bit) for MS Windows ...and installed on my computer ..i have windows xp on it. but computer became extremely slow after loading oracle...it takes almost 10 mins to open any windows /applications. finally i removed oracle then computer is fast and normal. I want to install oracle again..what steps i should take to keep computer working normal after installation. I have 40 GB HDrive and NTFS file system..
