Commit and Rollback buttons are "silent"

Running 17.2 on 64 Bit with the bundled Java

The Commit and Rollback buttons on the menu bar work but don't actually put any message on the screen. The same happens if you press F11 or F12.

I've started with a clean profile and not imported any settings
