Columns referenced in links can't be hidden in 3.1 Interactive Report?

I have just migrated a report which uses hidden column references in the link text and link attributes (e.g. <... style="font-weight: bold; color:#TEXT_COLOUR#"> #JOB_CODE# and title="#LINK_TEXT#") from 3.0.1 to a 3.1 Interactive Report.

Under 3.0.1 the text colour and link text is correctly set, but under the migrated interactive report I can only retain this behaviour if I make the hidden columns visible (which is not desirable). Leaving the link_text column hidden, for example, under 3.1 IR just shows the string #LINK_TEXT# as the link text, rather than the contents of the LINK_TEXT column.

Is this a bug, or a limitation in interactive reports? If so, can anyone suggest a suitable workaround to retain the previous functionality without having to display the hidden columns?
