Colored items in a combobox

Hello,
I have a requirement of providing the colored list items in a JCombobox, used in a JTable. My users need it in order to distinguish certain items in the list from the others with the help of diferent color..
Has anyone done this before? If yes, can you please help?
I am using JDK 1.4.2
