coalescing free space
Hi,
(regarding Oracle 9i, dictionary managed tablespaces)
Am I right in assuming that Oracle will only coalesce extents that are next to one another on disk? And that Oracle will never move data around? I mean, say we have 1M free, then a data block that takes up 64KB, and then another 1M free, will Oracle not move that 64KB block somewhere else so that we can have 2M contiguosly free?
Also, will contiguous blocks always be coalesced into a big extent as possible?
thanks.
