Cluster vs Grid

434107May 11 2005
Hello,
I have some confusion with regards to cluster vs grid.
I came across an article which said that the key distinction between cluster and grid lies mainly in the way the resources are managed. In case of clusters, resource allocation is performed by a centralized resource manager and all nodes cooperatively work together as a single unified resource. Whereas in a Grid each node has its own resource manager and does not aim to provide a single system view.
Now the confusion is i have installed an Oracle10g RAC database consisting of two nodes. How do i know which node is the cluster manager and is managing the 2 nodes in the cluster? Secondly the two nodes in the cluster have a single system image which is a characteristic of a cluster. What do i need to do next inorder to convert this cluster into a Grid so that each node has it's own resource manager?
I would be grateful if someone could help me.

Thanking you in advance,

Regards,
Salil
