Clock drift

user551318Jan 28 2010 — edited Jan 29 2010
Hi,
I have installed Oracle Enterprise Linux R5U4 as a virtual machine. In fact I have 3 instances of OEL5U4 (64bit) on Intel Xeon (E5420) server (SuperMicro motherboard). The host operating system is Fedora 11.

On two of the systems the system clock drifts by several minutes in an hour (HUGE). While one of the 3 shows time which is right and is in sync with host system (hardware clock).

I have compared the installations (done using the same source DVD) and cannot find any difference between the 3 systems.

I have seen some notes to run cron job to fix the drift. But I wondered if there is any better fix than that.

BTW, I have also tried using NTP to no avail. With or Without NTP the good guest (first instance of VM) behaves as expected while the other two do not.

Thanks for your time and help
