Client install fails checking OS version

user6231793Nov 30 2010 — edited Dec 1 2010
Hi
I am trying to install Oracle client 10.2.0.4 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit machine and have downloaded the client install 10204_vista_w2k8_x64_production_client which is linked from the download page:
Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4.0)
Enterprise/Standard Edition for Microsoft Windows Vista x64, Windows Server 2008 x64, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 x64, Windows 7 x64.
But when I run it it fails with message: Checking operating system version: must be 5.0, 5.1, 5.2 or 6.0. Actual 6.1 Failed <<<<
I understand 6.1 is the R2 kernel, but the download is for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 so it should be fine.

Is there another one I should be using?
Can I try the 11g client for our 10g db?

thanks

madre
