Clear difference between UDA and attribute dimension with example

Can you explain in detail...I am new to hyperion and for past one month I am not understanding why we are using UDA because we can group using attribute dimension...But someone are saying we can use UDA for both dense and sparse dimension...But why attribute dimension is limited to only sparse?
