Cleaning up an orphan incarnation in the RMAN catalog

user1151048Feb 24 2015 — edited Feb 25 2015

Hello community.

I have a production database with a 2009 incarnation in the controlfile and catalog and a colleague created a standby database, not sure of the exact steps, that created an ORPHAN incarnation.

DB Key  Inc Key DB Name  DB ID            STATUS  Reset SCN  Reset Time

------- ------- -------- ---------------- --- ---------- ----------

1       2       PROD     ---------------       CURRENT 1          07-may      -2009 07:52:45 am

1       4284036 PROD     ----------------       ORPHAN  2482748620700 14-february -2015 08:47:46 am

I looked for MOS docs and community discussions about cleaning up the orphan.  Could anyone point this out to me?  The prod controlfile only lists its own incarnation.   I was also looking for something that explains the impact of an orphaned incarnation.  It sounds like some of the discussions indicate this would be ignored in the event of a restore.

Thanks,

John
