Classic application and EPM application

I only knew that EPM application can be shared among Essbase, Planning, HFM etc. but is there anything beyond that?

Is there any difference in creating FDQM application while using Classic Hfm app or EPM Hfm app? and in reference to schema?

If so, kindly let me know your valuable answers
