CIC_ERR_SMALL_BUFFER error

I am attempting to implement security (SSL and ciphers) between a Tuxedo client and server (both are at version 12.1.1.0). To begin with I am using the Oracle supplied applications i.e. 'simplc' for the client and 'simpserv' for the server. Certificate exchange occurs but in the trace log on both client and server this error is reported:

nzospLog: *** ssl_DecodeRecord failed: returned [0x81010004] CIC_ERR_SMALL_BUFFER

I cannot find anything in the Tuxedo documentation to explain what this is. Any assistance gratefully received. Thanks.
