choosing JDeveloper 11g R1 or JDeveloper 11g R2

Jan VerveckenJan 4 2012 — edited Mar 13 2012
hi

Maybe this should not be a question, but ...

The JDeveloper download page currently says:
"Release Downloads for Oracle JDeveloper 11g (11.1.2.1.0)
...
Important Note - This version of JDeveloper doesn't include the SOA and WebCenter pieces - to use these components you'll need to download Oracle JDeveloper 11.1.1.5.0.
"

If the SOA and WebCenter pieces will not be used, I wonder what is currently the best choice to start developing an ADF application, JDeveloper 11g R1 or JDeveloper 11g R2 ?

Also considering comments like ...

- "The roll out of Fusion Applications - to on premise installations and cloud deployment - is based on the 11gR1 branch of Fusion Middleware - and it will stay on that branch for some time to come. Fusion Apps will not adopt the 11gR2 release of ADF but probably embrace 12c at some point."
(see "Fusion Forward - an update from Oracle Open World 2011" by Lucas Jellema)
- "Some readers might find it curious why the 11g 11.1.1.X.0 series continues to at least 11.1.1.7.0 while there is already an 11.1.2.0.0 release of JDev. My understanding this is occurring because Fusion Apps will continue on the 11.1.1.X.0 series for some time yet thus extending the life of that branch."
(see "ADF take aways from Oracle Open World 2011" by Chris Muir)

- (q1) What would currently (January 2012) be the preferred (future proof) choice to start developing an ADF application (without SOA or WebCenter), JDeveloper 11g R1 or JDeveloper 11g R2, and why?

many thanks
