Choose OLAP type for Datastore in ODI

3673816Jul 30 2018 — edited Aug 28 2018

Hello.

When I create a new Datastore pointing to an Oracle table, there is a field called OLAP Type and it has options to enter a Dimension, a Slowly Changing Dimension or a Fact.

We primarily use SCD2, so when I choose Slowly Changing Dimension, I am then able to select the appropriate IKM and tag each field as for the SCD behavior. So, I understand why I HAVE TO select that OLAP type, in order to make SCD2 work correctly with the IKM Oracle SCD. That is well understood.

However, can somebody explain what does choosing a "Dimension" or a "Fact" OLAP Type actually cause ODI to do? Is it just for tagging or does it cause ODI to facilitate some kind of functionality?

Thank you

Boris
