Check to see whether record already exists. If not, insert - else update

Hi

I am trying to insert/update in a table - however I will update in case the PK already exists and if there is some difference in the existing and the incoming record. And if record doesnt exist at all, I will insert.

What is the best way to find out whether record will be inserted/updated based on its presence?
