Chat room

Hi all experts,

I'm a student and our project group is hosting a website, and now would like to write our own chat room so that we can add it to the website.
We are using Apache server and also using Tomcat.

Does anyone know how we can host our own chat room?
It would be very helpful if you could direct me to the right direction.
