Character mode Forms

I am slightly confused about what defines a character mode form. I believe that having the coordination unit as character is not th lone criteria. We have around 500 forms with co-ordination unit as character, but the code inside the form is mouse enabled, like when validate item, when validate record etc. Can you pleaes define what do you mean by character mode form.
also in Forms 10g, I can still see character as one option for co-ordination unit. If Oracle claims that 6i is the last version to support character mode, what do you mean by that.
