Changing sys user's password

Ken_73Dec 8 2017 — edited Dec 9 2017

DB version: 11.2.0.4

OS : RHEL 7.4

I wanted to change sys's password in my DB (Standalone DB).

I was under the impression that I need to do Step1 & 2 mentioned below to change sys's password. But, after step1, I have noticed that the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapw<DB_NAME> file's timestamp has changed when I made the password change in the DB (Step1). And, I was able to connect remotely as sys using the new password as shown below.

So, Step1 is enough to change sys's password ?

Step1.

SQL> alter user sys identified by Tigerless#4 ;

User altered.

Step2.

orapwd file=orapwLMSPRD password=Tigerless#4 entries=5 FORCE=Y

Remote connection test:

sqlplus sys/Tigerless#4@10.80.148.158:1521/LMSPRD as sysdba
