Cassandra vs Oracle

Someone suggested that we should switch to Cassandra for high availability and performance.

I am trying to read about Cassandra and it sounds like it's not RDBMS db. But I am not able to find real advantages and disadvantages when comparing with ORacle. If someone could help me understand that would be great.
