CASE Statements with Microsoft Analysis Services cube

user9312246Nov 16 2010 — edited Dec 7 2010
Hi Experts,

I am using Microsoft analysis services cube with OBIEE and got into a situation where I need to group some members of a particular dimension and club them together. This clubbed dimension needs to be pulled against a metric for which the aggregation rule is 'Count Distinct' in the analysis services cube. So the situation is depicted below-

Product Group, Number of Distinct Orders
A 11709
B 9772
C 16713
P 948
Q 21306
R 308618

so A, B and C needs to be clubbed together, and show as 'X' in the report. When I am trying to use a case statement, it gives me - 'cannot function-ship' error. Important consideration is to pull the aggregation from the cube so the count distinct for A,B and C in the cube is 38192, which is not a summation. I tried to use EVALUATE_AGGR and pull the aggregation from the cube. I got it but now, I am not sure how to club A, B, and C and call them 'X' (case statments in answers and in RPD are not helping out).

Any pointers would be great. Thanks, Neelesh
