Cascading LOV performance in grids

Scott WesleyNov 19 2020

I'm also battling this interactive grid performance issue described here.
If I have a Popup LOV (itembook_id) on my grid that displays 500 rows - as soon as I define a cascading column (supplier_code), it starts taking 30 seconds for the ajax call to render the grid.
image.pngI've tried setting a minimum number of characters in the LOV, but it always fires hundreds of these.
image.pngI've also tried with/without the itembook_id restriction.
They don't take much, but they add up.
image.pngExecuted by themselves, the query runs fast, does a unique scan on item and range scans the supplier prices.
I also found as soon as I try using shared component LOV with a cascading bind variable, it no longer accepts the multi-column format.
It seems in APEX 19.2, the use of Popup LOV in grids, particularly with the advanced LOVs is a little awkward.
Have things improved in 20.2? I'm yet to try a test case, but I found nothing specific to this in the release notes.
Scott.
