Capturing button request value

I'm using APEX 5.1.1. I've bunch of buttons on a report page and would like to capture the button name as the request to display appropriate conditional report on the page. I tried use the button name (with upper case) as plsql expression :REQUEST = 'MYBUTTON" and also tried v('request) in ('MYBUTTON"), but the condition is ignored. I'm missing something here, any ideas please, thanks
