Cannot start runInstaller from mounted ISO image: Permission denied

Peter Wahl-OracleAug 20 2015 — edited Oct 29 2015

Dear All,

I have done this very often (maybe too often, so routine creeps in):

When installing Oracle software, I usually download the zip file, extract it and create an ISO image from it (all that happens on the host) that I then mount into the VM via the VBox GUI menu.

Then I execute "/media/CDROM/runInstaller" and the Oracle SW gets installed.

Since a couple weeks, I get:

/media/CDROM/runInstaller

-bash: /media/CDROM/runInstaller: Permission denied

I have *NO* clue what is going on and this is driving me nuts -- what a time sink.

I don't remember building the VMs any different, and also the ISO images are created by a single command, so no difference there.

Any ideas ?? The user on the host that runs VBox is a member of the vboxusers group.
