Cannot set Xmx higher than 926m in java 1.6.0_20

Hi,
after installing the latest JRE, i cannot launch any java app with an Xmx higher than 926m.
In a previous version (1.6.0_17) i was able to use more than 1280MB of max heap!

I'm using Windows XP 32Bit with 4GB RAM installed (-> 3.5 GB usable).

Is this a known issue or is there anything i can do to raise this limit?
