can you limit the user input

Dear all,

I'm try to create a block that accespt user input, i mean when user execute this block (procedure/fucntion)

it should prompt him to enter data not more than 8 character, then i need to use this characters in side this

block. So do you know any function or package can do that .

plz help & advice.
