Can't view tables, views, anything!

I cannot see any database objects. If I use any other tool I see things fine. In SQL Developer I click on "Tables" or expand the tree and there is nothing there. The only thing in the tree that shows anything at all is "Public Synonyms" and "Other Users". Again, the connection IS working (I can type and run a select statement with no problem), I just can't see anything in the tree. SQL+Plus works fine.

Using a basic connection. Windows XPsp2, Oracle SQL Developer 1.0.0.14, Oracle 8i client software installed.
