Can't Open - no VTOC

Installation was halted when i got this message on mounting the harddrive;
/pci@0,0/pci-ide@7,1/ide@0/cmdk@0,0:a: can't open - no VTOC From what i can find out is VTOC the disk label if this is of any help.
