Can't open boot device

807559Sep 30 2004 — edited Feb 24 2007
I downloaded the solaris 9 installation CDs, put disk 1 in the drive, and typed

boot cdrom

at the OpenBoot prompt.

the machine rebooted, and I saw

Rebooting with command: boot cdrom
Boot device: /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3/cdrom@2,0:f and args:
Evaluating: boot cdrom

Can't open boot device

Now... how do I find out whether this is a problem with the cdrom that I burned (I'm pretty sure the ISO image is correct... I downloaded it twice, and the two iso images diffed to 0... at least on the hard drive of the machine that I burned the cds on).

I don't have the root password on this machine, so I'm currently stuck until I can boot from the cdrom.

tia,
