Can't get past grub to boot Linux

687297Feb 24 2009 — edited Mar 4 2009
Sorry to be so ignorant, but I am an HP-UX SysAdmin trying to get a clue about OEL...

I am trying to install OEL 5.3 64-bit. I was able to install a 4.x version previously and get it to boot to Linux, but I have since tried three 5.x installs, the last one being 5.3, but on the 5.x installs all I get is a grub> prompt. I chose to use grub on the first 5.x install, thinking it might be helpful, but after I couldn't figure out how to get to the OS, I tried re-installing and not selecting grub, but I keep getting it.

I would like to know what to read/do to understand how to use grub to boot to the 5.3 os, or I would like to know how to do an install so that grub is no longer a stop during the boot process.

Thanks,
Paul
