Can't deploy MAF Sample Apps

I am trying to install some of the sample MAF apps ( jdev_install/jdeveloper/jdev/extensions/oracle.maf/Samples directory) onto my Android phone (version 4.4.2) without any success.

I am using jDev Build JDEVADF_12.1.3.0.0_GENERIC_140521.1008.S

If I deploy to an Android package using the default deployment profiles, I get the following error:

"Failed to deploy the profile because the project "ViewController.jpr" is not an MAF ApplicationController or ViewController project. (oracle.adfmf.framework.dt.deploy.features.deployers.FeatureArchiveDeployer)"

I searched for that error in this forum and found this:

So I upgraded the MAF patch, and I still get the same error.

I then tinkered around a bit with the Application Properties/Deplyment/Android1/Profile Dependencies

Now I can deploy to my phone, but the app gets stuck on the Splash screen. Can someone advise on what things need to be checked off in the Profile Dependencies?
